Synopsis

Colin Briggs lands in a low-security prison and discovers, without quite meaning to, that he can grow things. When the famously flamboyant gardening expert Georgina Woodhouse — played by Mirren at her most theatrically imperious — spots his handiwork, she enters the inmates in a major horticultural competition. The film works as well as it does because Owen plays Colin as a man genuinely surprised by his own talent, not as someone on a redemption arc he already knows the ending to.
