Synopsis
Suicide Club (自殺サークル, 2001), directed by Sion Sono, is a Japanese horror-thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Fifty-four schoolgirls jump in front of a Tokyo subway train — together, hand in hand. That opening doesn't let go.
Detective Kuroda takes the case, but the suicides keep spreading across the city. A website surfaces that appears to track the deaths before they happen, updating its count ahead of the police. Masatoshi Nagase plays Kuroda as a man who starts with evidence and ends somewhere far outside it. Sion Sono — who later made Cold Fish and Why Don't You Play in Hell? — built this film as a sharp provocation about pop culture, conformity, and the mechanics of mass behaviour in Japanese society.
The film doesn't resolve into a clean explanation. It offers fragments and lets the unease accumulate. Stream Suicide Club (2001) online on iFILM.
