Synopsis
Sobibor (2018) is a Russian war drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by and starring Konstantin Khabensky as Soviet lieutenant Alexander Pechersky. Captured by the Nazis in the autumn of 1943, Pechersky finds himself inside a death camp in occupied Poland where the only direction the trains run is toward the gas chambers.
In barely three weeks he manages to unite Polish, French, and Soviet prisoners who share almost nothing — not language, not background, not trust. Khabensky plays the planning quietly, which turns out to be the film's sharpest choice: the tension comes not from speeches but from the arithmetic of escape. Christopher Lambert plays an SS officer with an unsettling ordinariness that makes the horror feel systemic rather than personal. The uprising that followed was the only one in any Nazi death camp to end in a large-scale breakout, and its story remained little known in the West for decades.
Released in 2018 to mark the 75th anniversary of the revolt, Sobibor earned theatrical distribution in Germany — a pointed choice. If you want a WWII film that trades in discipline and moral weight rather than spectacle, this one delivers. Stream Sobibor (2018) in full online on iFILM.
