Synopsis
The Premature Burial (1962) is a Gothic horror by Roger Corman you can watch online on iFILM. Nineteenth-century London. Medical student Guy Carrell is ruled by a single dread: waking up sealed inside his own coffin, the way he believes his father once did.
To cheat that fate, Guy turns a family crypt into a fortress — escape ladder, hidden latch, poison, even a charge of dynamite, all rigged in case catalepsy takes him too. His new wife Emily (Hazel Court) watches the obsession swallow the man she married. Ray Milland plays Carrell as someone slowly drowning in his own mind, and his feverish stare unsettles you long before anything jumps out of the dark.
This is the fourth entry in Corman's Edgar Allan Poe cycle for American International Pictures, a loose take on Poe's story. Corman shot fast and cheap, yet he pulls a thick, clammy gloom out of it: fog, vaults, a spade beside fresh-turned earth. It rewards viewers who like their scares built on mood instead of gore.
