Synopsis
The Summit (2013) is Nick Ryan's documentary drama, and you can watch online on iFILM. Over roughly forty-eight hours in August 2008, eleven climbers died on K2, the second-highest peak on Earth. The film sets out to reconstruct exactly how it fell apart.
Ryan stitches together real expedition footage and staged reenactments, rebuilding the timeline from fragments of video and survivors who remember it differently. Some of the on-mountain material came from Swedish climber Fredrik Sträng, whose own filming stopped when he turned back short of the top. Above eight thousand meters, every account splits: where the ice broke loose, who was left behind, why the fixed ropes failed at the deadliest stretch of the route. Rather than hand down a verdict, the movie lays the conflicting versions side by side.
What emerges isn't a triumphant summit story but a cold inquiry into how people choose when a mistake costs a life. It suits viewers who want survival and expedition documentaries with no gloss. Stream The Summit (2013) online on iFILM.
