Synopsis
Wonders of the Solar System (2010) is a BBC Two documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, hosted by physicist Professor Brian Cox. Across five episodes, Cox travels to the most extreme environments on Earth to show how the same physical laws shape natural phenomena across our entire Solar System.
Frozen Antarctic plains mirror the chemistry of Jupiter's moons. Desert dunes track the same physics as Martian drifts. An Icelandic geyser models what happens beneath the surface of Enceladus. Each location is a working analogy — not a loose comparison, but the actual same process in a different setting.
The series was a breakout hit for BBC Two and launched Cox into mainstream science communication, spawning follow-ups including Wonders of the Universe. It works because the scale of space, when you anchor it to something you can stand next to, stops feeling abstract.
