The UNSC warship Spirit of Fire is dispatched to the planet Harvest — the first world humanity lost to the Covenant. Captain James Cutter's soldiers find the aliens deep in an excavation led by a Arbiter whose identity and goals are unknown. Whatever is buried there, the Covenant wants it badly enough to fight for it.
