David Berkowitz confessed, went to prison, and the case was closed. Terry never bought it. The deeper he dug, the more the investigation ate away at his own life, until the line between seeking the truth and obsession all but vanished.
Director Joshua Zeman frames the show as the portrait of a man swallowed by his own theory, with Paul Giamatti reading Terry's words in voiceover. Three episodes build a queasy unease and leave the central question hanging. Bleak viewing for anyone drawn not just to the crimes but to the price paid by someone who can't let a case go.
