Synopsis
The Rapture (Le Ravissement, 2023) is a French drama you can watch online on iFILM, the debut of writer-director Iris Kaltenbäck. Lydia, a dedicated midwife, is reeling from a breakup when her closest friend Salomé tells her she's pregnant.
Lydia guides the whole pregnancy and delivers the baby herself. Then, cradling the newborn in a park, she runs into Milos — a man she once spent a single night with — and, on impulse, lets him believe the child is hers. A small lie told almost out of exhaustion swells into a deception she can no longer climb out of. Hafsia Herzi plays Lydia with a controlled, almost motionless intensity; Alexis Manenti is the deceived Milos.
Kaltenbäck frames her debut around a narrator who recounts events from a slight distance, like a witness statement. The device turns a quiet psychological story into a slowly tightening noose. Stream The Rapture online on iFILM.
