Synopsis
On the Job (2013) is a Filipino crime-action thriller you can watch online on iFILM, built on a true and chilling racket: corrupt officials let convicted hitmen out of prison for a day or two to carry out contracts, then slip them back behind bars. The perfect alibi.
Aging killer Tatang (Joel Torre) trains his young cellmate Daniel (Gerald Anderson) out on the streets, passing the trade down like an inheritance. Chasing the murders are an ambitious agent (Piolo Pascual) and a weary cop who keep pulling a thread that leads straight to people no one is supposed to touch. The closer they get, the more their families turn into collateral.
Director Erik Matti premiered the film in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes and later spun it into a wider franchise. He shoots it grimy and tense — handheld cameras, sweating Manila slums, not a clean pair of hands in the cast. For anyone who likes their Asian crime cinema unvarnished, it lands hard.
