Synopsis
"There's Always Tomorrow" (1956) — watch it online on iFILM, a domestic drama directed by Douglas Sirk with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. Clifford runs a toy factory in sunny California: the house, the children, the routines. His wife Joan is devoted to the family in every way that leaves him out of it. His kids are friendly when they want something.
Then a former employee named Norma turns up. Stanwyck plays her — attentive, warm, simply aware that Clifford exists. What develops is quieter than an affair and harder to dismiss: the pull of someone who actually sees you. Joan Bennett plays the wife who doesn't.
MacMurray and Stanwyck already burned down a marriage together in "Double Indemnity" in 1944; Sirk places them here with full awareness of that shadow. Made between "Magnificent Obsession" and "Written on the Wind," the film shares their controlled irony: every surface says stability, and every glance says otherwise.
