Synopsis
Watch Masada (1981) online on iFILM — the ABC miniseries built around one of antiquity's most debated last stands. Peter O'Toole plays Flavius Silva, the Roman governor ordered to crush the last pocket of resistance in Judea, while Peter Strauss plays Eleazar ben Yair, the Zealot commander who holds a clifftop fortress above the Dead Sea and refuses to negotiate.
The screenplay by Joel Oliansky draws on Ernest Gann's 1971 novel The Antagonists, cutting between both sides of the siege: a Roman legate who has to build a massive earthen ramp across the desert just to reach the walls, and a rebel leader who knows his options are narrowing by the month. Director Boris Sagal keeps the scale grounded — this is less spectacle than it is two men making impossible calculations.
