Synopsis
The Crash Reel (2013) is Lucy Walker's documentary about snowboarder Kevin Pearce, and you can watch it online on iFILM — a story of the rise, the wreck, and the long climb back.
As a teenager Pearce traded wins with Shaun White at the very top of the halfpipe. Then, drilling a double cork — one of the sport's most dangerous tricks — he slammed face-first into the slope and spent a week unconscious. Walker's camera holds both halves: the archive of his best runs, and the grind that followed — relearning how to speak, how to balance, how to argue with a family begging him to stay off the mountain that keeps pulling him back.
Walker stitched the film together from the Pearce family's home video, contest footage and raw kitchen-table conversations, skipping the inspirational voiceover entirely. What's left is a rare sports portrait where the question isn't whether the champion returns, but at what cost — and whether it's worth it. It lands hard even if you've never touched a board.
