Synopsis
La Belle Équipe (1936) is a French social drama by Julien Duvivier — watch it online on iFILM. Jean Gabin leads five unemployed Parisians who pool their lottery winnings to rebuild a derelict riverside property into an open-air café.
The project starts as a working-class dream and slowly turns into something else. Jealousy, a woman, the grind of shared money — everything that poverty hadn't managed to break, proximity does. Duvivier shot this during France's Popular Front year, and the collapse of the group carries real political weight beneath the melodrama.
