Deewaar

Deewaar (1975) — watch it online on iFILM and you'll understand why half of Bollywood still borrows from this film. Director Yash Chopra worked from a script by the duo Salim-Javed and built a crime drama from a single broken family: a trade union activist falsely accused, disgraced, and destroyed, leaving two sons to grow up carrying his shame.

Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) becomes a police officer. His brother Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) rises from dock worker to criminal kingpin. The collision between them isn't just a plot mechanism — it's the whole point of the film. Nirupa Roy as their mother and Parveen Babi as Vijay's lover round out a cast that holds the melodrama steady under real pressure.
