Retired FBI agent Douglas Ripper gets pulled out of quiet civilian life when an old case cracks open again. He tracks down his former partner Bullit, and the two wildly mismatched agents — one an impulsive wreck, the other a textbook know-it-all — charge back into action. The film is set in a version of the American Midwest that exists only in the French imagination: wrong accents, wrong geography, wrong everything, all played completely straight.
