Synopsis
The One Man Band (L'Homme orchestre, 1970) is a French musical comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Serge Korber built the film around Louis de Funès as Evan Evans, a tyrannical ballet impresario who runs his troupe like a private military unit — particularly when it comes to keeping his female dancers away from any male contact before a major tour.
The plan unravels immediately. One dancer turns out to already have a baby. Then another child appears, then another. Evans, convinced at least one of them belongs to his nephew Philippe, finds himself drafted into the role of reluctant guardian — while simultaneously trying to hold together a multinational tour that's sliding into complete disorder. Olivier de Funès, the actor's real-life son, plays Philippe.
De Funès carries the whole thing on timing and facial expression alone. It's not his most celebrated film, but if you know his work, the escalating domestic chaos he's forced to manage here is exactly what makes his comedies worth watching. Stream The One Man Band online on iFILM.
