Synopsis
Zombi Child (2019) is Bertrand Bonello's art-horror drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It runs two stories at once, half a century apart — the cane fields of Haiti and an elite Paris boarding school.
Haiti, 1962. A man is buried, then dragged back from the grave to cut sugarcane with no will and no memory of his own name. Fifty-five years later his granddaughter attends a strict school for daughters of the Légion d'honneur. Hoping to impress a clique of new friends, she shares an old family secret about voodoo. One girl, gutted by a breakup, takes the story far too literally and reaches for something she should leave alone. The Haitian thread draws on Clairvius Narcisse, the most documented real-life "zombie" on record.
Bonello skips jump scares entirely. What he builds instead is cold and hypnotic — a film about colonial memory, teenage obsession, and how someone else's faith becomes a dangerous toy. This one is slow, strange, closer to art cinema than to a genre creepshow. Stream Zombi Child (2019) online on iFILM.
