Yao

"Yao" (2019) — watch online on iFILM — is a French-Senegalese road drama directed by Philippe Godeau, led by Omar Sy. A thirteen-year-old boy named Yao slips away from his village in northern Senegal and travels 387 kilometres on his own to reach Dakar, where his idol — a famous French actor — has arrived to promote a new book.

The actor, Seydou Tall (Sy), is visiting Senegal for the first time. Moved by the boy's stubbornness, he puts aside his schedule and drives Yao home. The unpaved roads between the capital and the village do something unforeseen: they pull Seydou back toward his own origins.
