French Exit

French Exit (2021) is the Michelle Pfeiffer tragicomedy to watch online on iFILM, built around one of her sharpest, driest performances.

Frances Price meant to die before the money ran out, and the plan failed. Widowed for years, her late husband's fortune nearly spent, the Manhattan socialite cashes in what's left and decamps to a borrowed Paris apartment. She brings her aimless adult son Malcolm and a black cat named Small Frank, who may be carrying the soul of her dead husband.

Director Azazel Jacobs adapts Patrick deWitt's novel into a showcase for Pfeiffer, whose socialite spends her last francs with imperious calm and a tongue like a razor. The humor is bone-dry, the sadness underneath is real, and the apartment slowly fills with oddballs orbiting her.
