About

Synopsis

Sirens (1994) is a sly comedy-drama from director John Duigan, and you can watch it online on iFILM. In 1930s Australia, a young Anglican clergyman, Anthony Campion (Hugh Grant), travels with his wife to confront a notorious painter.

The painter is Norman Lindsay (Sam Neill), a real figure of Australian art whose frank canvases the church wants pulled from an exhibition. Campion arrives to talk sense into him and instead gets stranded in a house brimming with temptation. Three models pose for Lindsay — bold Sheela (Elle Macpherson), sensual Pru and innocent Giddy — and prim Estella (Tara Fitzgerald) feels the heat, nudity and freedom loosening her own certainties.

Duigan keeps things light, a sunlit fable about flesh outvoting dogma, teasing rather than crude. Film buffs will note Portia de Rossi's screen debut here. It lands as a warm, mischievous look at art and desire for anyone who likes their scandal served with a wink. Stream Sirens (1994) online on iFILM.
