Synopsis
Cropsey (2010) is an American documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio grew up on Staten Island hearing the same campfire story every kid in New York knew — a disfigured maniac named Cropsey who hunted children in the dark. Then five real children went missing.
Zeman and Brancaccio follow the trail to the Willowbrook State School, a disgraced Staten Island institution shut down after Geraldo Rivera's 1972 exposé on conditions inside. The prime suspect in the disappearances is Andre Rand, a former Willowbrook worker who had been living in the tunnels beneath the abandoned grounds. The film is genuinely unsettling not because it manufactures dread, but because the dread was already there. Stream Cropsey online on iFILM.
