Synopsis
The City of the Dead (1960) is a black-and-white British horror you can watch online on iFILM, directed by John Llewellyn Moxey with a young Christopher Lee as a professor fascinated by New England's grimmest history.
It begins in 1692, as a crowd drags the accused witch Elizabeth Selwyn to the stake — and just before the flames take her, she trades her soul for endless life and a vow to do nothing but harm. Three hundred years on, student Nan Barlow, hooked by Professor Driscoll's lectures, drives out to the backwater town of Whitewood to dig up material for her thesis. She books a room at the Raven's Inn, where the fog never lifts, the locals barely speak, and no straight question gets a straight answer.
Made on almost nothing and clocking just 78 minutes, it builds a chill that pricier Gothic pictures rarely match — half the fear here comes from light, shadow, and empty streets. For fans of vintage horror and Christopher Lee, it lands square. Stream The City of the Dead (1960) online on iFILM.
