Synopsis
Motherhood (2009), starring Uma Thurman, is a low-key dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. It tracks a single day in the life of Eliza, a Manhattan mom of two with a writing career on hold. Her daughter turns six tomorrow, and the whole city seems to pile on at once.
A parking spot someone keeps stealing, an essay on motherhood due by midnight, a husband who forgot the party, a neighbor and friend played by Minnie Driver, and a hundred tiny errands that add up to invisible labor. Nothing catastrophic happens — and that's the point. The film is about the fatigue greeting-card versions of motherhood never show. A Jodie Foster cameo tips the day further into absurdity.
Director Katherine Dieckmann keeps it small and local, almost real-time, out on jangled New York sidewalks. Thurman doesn't play an icon — she plays a frazzled, ordinary woman, and she holds the whole film together. It's for anyone tired of glossy parenting and ready to recognize their own chaotic day on screen. Stream Motherhood (2009) online on iFILM.
