Synopsis

Suntan (2016) is a Greek drama you can watch online on iFILM. Kostis, a forty-year-old doctor, arrives on the tiny island of Antiparos to run the local clinic, dragging himself through an empty off-season with only a handful of elderly patients for company.

Then summer arrives and flips his life over. The beaches fill with tanned young tourists, nudists and round-the-clock parties, and Kostis falls hard for Anna, a nineteen-year-old at the center of the crowd. At first it plays like a second adolescence — drinking, late-night swims, borrowed lightness. But an ageing loner's infatuation slowly curdles into obsession, and the line between pathetic and genuinely frightening blurs almost without warning.

Director Argyris Papadimitropoulos builds an uncomfortable study of male self-delusion and humiliation, and Makis Papadimitriou plays Kostis with zero vanity, which makes some scenes hard to sit through. The warm Mediterranean light is a trap; something far darker is ripening under the suntan. Not a beach romance but a clear-eyed portrait of a man unravelling. Stream Suntan (2016) online on iFILM.
