Synopsis
League of Gods (2016) is a Chinese–Hong Kong fantasy spectacle you can watch online on iFILM. Crazed King Zhou has invited the spirit of the Black Dragon into his own body, and the beast is slowly eating away at his soul, waiting for a planetary alignment to break free.
Three unlikely champions set out to stop it: a winged warrior, a shape-shifting girl and a demon hunter chasing a legendary sword. Director Koan Hui packs the cast with stars — Jet Li as the sage Jiang Ziya, Huang Xiaoming, Fan Bingbing as the seductive villainess Daji, and veteran Tony Leung Ka-fai. Nearly every frame leans on CGI rather than physical sets.
The story is lifted from the 16th-century novel Investiture of the Gods, the same mythology behind a good chunk of East Asian fantasy. Depth isn't the draw here.
