Synopsis
Mrs Brown's Boys (2011) is the Irish-British sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. It centers on Agnes Brown, a loud, meddling Dublin widow who rules her household of grown kids, grandchildren and one ancient hanger-on with sheer force of personality.
The twist: Agnes is played by a man — comedian Brendan O'Carroll, who wrote the whole thing — and much of the surrounding family is played by his actual relatives and friends. Filmed live in front of a studio audience, the show leaves in the flubbed lines, the wobbling sets and the cast cracking up mid-scene, treating those mistakes as part of the act.
The comedy is broad, foul-mouthed and proudly old-fashioned, all farce and salty one-liners. Critics savaged it; viewers turned it into one of the highest-rated sitcoms in Britain and Ireland, a BBC Scotland and RTÉ co-production. If you like your humor loud and unfashionable, it delivers.
