Synopsis
The Balkan Line (2019) is Andrey Volgin's war thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Summer 1999, Kosovo: a small Russian squad is ordered to seize Slatina airfield near Pristina and hold it until reinforcements arrive.
Andrei Shatalov's men (Anton Pampushny) end up trapped between Albanian militia and advancing NATO forces. They're outnumbered, help is hours away, and one of the hostages inside the airport is a soldier's girlfriend. Every hour they hold the runway nudges the Balkans closer to another full-scale war. The cast features Gosha Kutsenko, Miloš Biković, Milena Radulović and Gojko Mitić, with a cameo from director Emir Kusturica.
The story grows out of the real dash by Russian paratroopers to Pristina airport — the tense overnight move that Western commanders argued about for years afterward. This Russian-Serbian co-production plays it rough and unvarnished, told with a genuine Balkan voice. If you like hard war films where the politics stay off-screen and the camera stays on men under fire, this one's for you. Stream The Balkan Line (2019) online on iFILM.
