Corbucci (1926–1990) made the original Django with Franco Nero and dozens of westerns that ran dirtier, meaner and bloodier than anything Sergio Leone shot. Tarantino, who never hides how much these films shaped him, breaks them down scene by scene — the mud, the violence, the politics buried in postwar Italy. Franco Nero and Ruggero Deodato speak to the camera; archive footage of Clint Eastwood and Klaus Kinski flickers past.
