Synopsis
Revanche (2008) is an Austrian crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Alex works security in a Vienna brothel and is quietly in love with Tamara, one of the women there. To get her out, he plans a bank robbery.
One thing goes wrong in a single second, and that second ties Alex to Robert, a village policeman, and his wife Susanne, living a calm life out in the countryside. From there the film barely speaks. It chops wood, nurses guilt, waits. Götz Spielmann shoots with no score and no hurry, which only winds the tension tighter. Johannes Krisch plays the lead clenched-jaw, never wasting a gesture.
Austria sent the film to the Oscars, where it was up for Best Foreign Language Film, and it sealed Spielmann's name as a director who can hold silence.
