Synopsis

Gleason (2016) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. At 34, former New Orleans Saints defensive back Steve Gleason was told he had ALS. Weeks later he and his wife Michel learned she was pregnant. He started filming.

What began as a video journal for his unborn son Rivers turned into something much harder to categorize. The footage captures speech therapy sessions, the boy's first steps, the day Steve loses the ability to use his hands, and the quiet work of building a foundation to help other ALS patients find purpose. Drew Brees and Eddie Vedder show up on camera — not for interviews, just as friends who came. Director J. Clay Tweel cut 110 minutes from years of material without looking away from any of it.

This isn't a film about a disease. It's a record of how one person decided to spend whatever time remained — and what that looked like from up close. Stream Gleason (2016) online on iFILM.
