Adolescents

Adolescents (2020) is a French documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Sébastien Lifshitz. Over five years, he followed two best friends — Emma Jaubert and Anaïs Chambeaudie — from thirteen to eighteen in the provincial town of Brive-la-Gaillarde.

They are inseparable and divided by almost everything else. Emma's family is working-class; Anaïs occupies a different social world. Lifshitz is present for first loves, exam pressure, arguments at home, and the long aimless conversations that only happen after midnight. He builds no drama from the contrast — he just watches — which is exactly what gives the film its weight. It claimed the César for Best Documentary Film in 2021.
