Synopsis
What Will People Say (Hva vil folk si, 2017) is a Norwegian drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Iram Haq. Maria Mozhdah plays Nisha, a sixteen-year-old caught between two irreconcilable lives.
At home, Nisha is the model Pakistani daughter — obedient, modest, following every rule. With her Norwegian friends, she's just a teenager. When her father catches her with her boyfriend, both worlds shatter. Her parents decide that to restore the family's honour, Nisha must be sent to relatives in Pakistan, a country she has never set foot in.
Haq wrote the script from personal experience, and it shows: this is a film about cultural displacement that refuses to make either side the villain. It was Norway's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Stream What Will People Say (2017) online on iFILM.
