The spring 2010 run marked the show's first significant studio overhaul: the elimination "red room" moved inside the ballroom itself, enclosed by glass walls, and a new balcony gave the competing cast a live sightline to each other's routines instead of a monitor feed.

Eleven celebrities competed this season — a tighter field than recent cycles. Among them: Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger, Olympic figure skating gold medalist Evan Lysacek, and ESPN anchor Erin Andrews. Brooke Burke, the Season 7 winner, joined Tom Bergeron as co-host, replacing Samantha Harris. Pro dancer Edyta Śliwińska became the only cast member to appear in every one of the show's first ten seasons.
