Synopsis
The Edge (Край, 2010) is a Russian drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Aleksey Uchitel and starring Vladimir Mashkov and Yulia Peresild.
August 1945. The war is over, but in a remote Siberian settlement the aftermath sits heavier than any celebration. Former tank driver Ignat comes back with one fixation: steam engines. He discovers a German locomotive called Gustav rusting on an isolated island — and finds it has a caretaker, Elsa, daughter of a German engineer arrested at the start of the war. For the locals, Ignat is an outsider and Elsa is the enemy. For Uchitel, their story becomes a race — speed as the only language two people can share when every other word takes sides.
Anjorka Strechel holds the screen against Mashkov without flinching; it's a film about 1945 that has almost nothing to do with victory. Stream The Edge online on iFILM.
