The Civil War, the Belarusian borderlands. Polish forces cross the Berezina river and push the Red Army back. A Bolshevik named Stepan builds a partisan unit in the forest — but a spy called Kapusta is working from inside the ranks. When the betrayal nearly costs the detachment everything, Yanko gets a warning through in time. The unit escapes across impassable marshland and links up with the Red Army as it enters Minsk on July 11.
