The Taming of the Shrewd

The Taming of the Shrewd (Poskromienie złośnicy, 2022) is a Polish romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Anna Wieczur puts Magdalena Lamparska in the role of Agata — a stubborn CEO trying to save her furniture company from collapse by acquiring land that sits on a vein of valuable bog timber.

The catch: Kaszka, the woman who owns that land, has just walked out of her marriage and decided to take up beekeeping. She has zero interest in selling. Agata talks her unreliable brother Patryk into charming Kaszka into a deal. It goes exactly as badly as you would expect. Mikołaj Roznerski plays the brother with the right mix of confidence and obliviousness, and the film stays warm enough through its comedy-of-errors turns to land the inevitable reversal with something like sincerity.
