NRSynopsis
A Traveler's Needs (2024) is a quiet drama from Korean director Hong Sang-soo that you can watch online on iFILM. Isabelle Huppert plays Iris, a Frenchwoman who has somehow landed in Seoul and makes her living teaching French.
Her method is odd. Instead of grammar, she presses her students about their feelings, their poems and their fears, handing out little phrase cards like small confessions. Across a single day she has four encounters. In between she walks barefoot over rocks, drinks makgeolli, and slowly reassembles herself out of other people's stories.
This is Hong at his most pared-down: long takes, looping dialogue, sudden zooms instead of cuts. The film took the Grand Jury Prize, the Silver Bear, at the 2024 Berlinale. It isn't built for viewers waiting on plot twists — it rewards anyone willing to just sit with Iris and think. Stream A Traveler's Needs online on iFILM.
