Synopsis
The Poet's Diary (2022) is a biographical drama by Bulat Yusupov you can watch online on iFILM. It follows Rami Garipov, a beloved Bashkir poet whose verses and private notebooks slowly build, on screen, into the portrait of a man who refused to stay quiet.
The story moves across his life from a wartime childhood in the 1940s through the 1970s. Garipov fought for one plain thing — the right to write in his native Bashkir language — and paid for it with years of suspicion, silence and a recognition that arrived too late. Artur Kunakbaev plays the poet at several stages of that road, with Olesya Shibko and Tansulpan Babicheva alongside him, while Garipov's own lines run through much of the film in voiceover.
This is quiet regional cinema made in Bashkortostan, careful with its source and unhurried in its telling. A good fit if you're after a historical drama about the cost of staying loyal to your language and your word. Stream The Poet's Diary (2022) online on iFILM.
