Synopsis
Stories of Samba (Saudosa Maloca, 2024) is a Brazilian drama by Pedro Serrano that you can watch online on iFILM. An aging samba singer leans across a bar table and hands a young waiter the São Paulo he once knew — a city that has since vanished.
The man is Adoniran Barbosa, the composer who set working-class São Paulo to music, played here by Paulo Miklos. He recalls the maloca, a ramshackle shack on the edge of town shared with his friends Joca and Mato Grosso. Their poverty, their shared crush on the beautiful Iracema, the first songs scribbled out — all set against neighborhoods torn down one by one in the name of progress. Each memory becomes a samba that outlives both the teller and the shack.
