Synopsis
Meeting with Pol Pot (Rendez-vous avec Pol Pot, 2024) is a historical drama by Rithy Panh that you can watch online on iFILM. The year is 1978, and three French journalists arrive in Democratic Kampuchea after the Khmer Rouge dangle something irresistible: a private interview with the regime's leader.
At first the country looks like a model society — tidy villages, calm faces, a daily life that runs like clockwork. But the whole tour is staged for the visitors, and the illusion starts to fail. Behind the showpiece, the regime is crumbling, war with Vietnam presses at the border, and the leadership quietly hunts for traitors while a mass killing of its own people goes on out of sight. Irène Jacob and Grégoire Colin play reporters chasing a scoop who instead find themselves inside a nightmare where one wrong question can be fatal.
The film comes from Rithy Panh, a director who lived through the Khmer Rouge years and has spent his career circling back to what they did. He blends live action with clay figurines and archival footage, turning a road trip into a study of how propaganda hides genocide. A heavy but essential watch for anyone willing to face history unvarnished. Stream Meeting with Pol Pot (2024) online on iFILM.
