Synopsis
Our Lovely Pig Slaughter (original title Mord, 2024) is a Czech–Slovak drama you can watch online on iFILM. Every winter Karel gathers the whole family at the old farm for the annual pig slaughter — a ritual that means good food, old jokes and the usual squabbles.
This year nothing goes to plan. The butcher won't admit his cartridges are damp. Grandpa can't find the words to tell Karel, newly widowed, that this will be their last slaughter. Daughter Lucie is sinking after her marriage fell apart, and grandson Dušík bolts when his parents argue over whether he's old enough to watch the kill. Everyone is quietly alone at the same crowded table. Director Adam Martinec films the rural ritual almost like a documentary — long takes, awkward silences, the weathered faces of a mostly non-professional cast. It's a slow, wry, oddly tender study of family, aging and the love that nobody quite manages to say out loud. Best suited to fans of patient European realism.
