Synopsis
Fig to Kokui! (Шиш на кокуй!, 1993) is a Russian comedy you can watch online on iFILM. In old Russia, "Kokui" meant a settlement of outsiders who lived by their own odd rules. The film plants that idea on a sleepy military base outside Moscow, tucked away in its own little corner of paradise.
The calm ends when Natasha, the camp's lifeguard, takes to swimming naked in the river every morning. Suddenly every man on the base has discovered a passion for dawn fishing, the wives are sharpening their knives for a reckoning, and the officers have no clue how to stop the brewing revolt in this private Eden. Director Igor Pushkarev pushes the whole mess into open farce.
Made in 1993, on the hinge between two eras, it carries the rowdy spirit of post-Soviet sex comedies — river dips, jealous brawls, and broad village color. The cast includes Vladimir Treshchalov, Tamara Syomina and Valery Nosik. A featherweight curio for anyone nostalgic for that scruffy early-'90s humor. Stream Fig to Kokui! (1993) online on iFILM.
