Synopsis
The Mopes (2021) is a German comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Mat Benvenuti is a singer-songwriter with a working life — gigs, a fanbase, a steady routine. Then Monika appears. She is only visible to him, but she is very much present: his depression, given a body and a schedule.
Director Christian Zübert builds the series around a literal conceit — the mope is not a mood but a woman who sits across the table, weighs in on every decision, and refuses to leave when asked. Her sole purpose is to make his reality worse, and she pursues it methodically. Nora Tschirner plays Monika with a particular dry menace.
