On the Verge (2021) — watch online on iFILM. Julie Delpy wrote, co-directed and stars in this French comedy series set in pre-pandemic Los Angeles, where four women around forty are quietly running out of road on the plans they made for themselves.

The four: a private chef stretched between two kids and no partner, a single mother in financial freefall, an heiress with resources and no direction, and a job-seeker with too much pride to admit how bad things are. Co-directed by Mathieu Demy and David Petrarca, the show is at its best when it refuses to fix anyone or deliver the tidy arc. Alexia Landeau and Elisabeth Shue round out the leads.
