Synopsis
The Discounters (Die Discounter, 2021) is a German mockumentary comedy series you can watch online on iFILM. A budget supermarket runs on permanent low-grade chaos: a mouse infestation, a shoplifting employee, a parade of difficult customers, and a branch manager named Thorsten who was not built for crisis management.
The show was co-created and partly directed by actor Bruno Alexander, who also appears on screen as one of the workers. Directors Oskar Belton and Emil Belton keep the camera close and handheld, letting the mundane grow genuinely absurd. Marc Hosemann anchors the ensemble as Thorsten, surrounded by a cast of recognizable retail archetypes — the eternal temp, the cashier who has seen it all, the colleague who clocks out on time every single shift without fail.
