Milya (Season 1)

Milya (Миля, 2024) is a Russian dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. Milya is thirty-nine and has just been dropped by the sponsor who bankrolled her entire lifestyle. No money, no plan. What she does have is a phone camera and a stubbornness that borders on desperation.

Her solution is to invent a new career overnight: she'll be a blogger, and a famous one at that. Since she has no idea how any of it works, she hires two twenty-year-olds, Dasha and Varya, for whom social media isn't a job but a native habitat. The brief is blunt — a million subscribers by month's end. The girls know it's nearly impossible, but the fee is fat and their new boss swears she'll do absolutely anything to hit the number. What that turns out to mean, they find out the hard way.

Karina Zvereva leads, with Elizaveta Kononova and Yasmina Omerovich, under director Oksana Mafagel. Behind the breezy talk of likes and reach sits a fairly sharp satire of the influencer machine and the gap between generations, where "it's all for the content" stops being funny fast. Rated 18+.
