Synopsis
The Salt of the Earth (Sol Zemli, 1979) is a Soviet drama you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from Georgy Markov's novel, it drops you into western Siberia in the late 1940s, a taiga region still raw from the war.
The story centres on the Strogov family and a party official who steps up to shield the forest when there are plans to put it under the axe.
