Synopsis
Mahabharat (2013) is a sweeping Indian mythological drama you can watch online on iFILM, produced by Swastik Pictures for Star Plus. The series ran to over 260 episodes starting September 2013 — one of the most ambitious screen adaptations of the ancient Sanskrit epic ever attempted.
Two clans of the Kuru dynasty drive the story: the virtuous Pandavas and their cousins the Kauravas, whose hunger for the throne of Hastinapur pushes the entire conflict across generations. When Yudhishthira is tricked into a game of dice and loses his kingdom, the Pandavas are sent into years of exile. The road back leads through war, and before the decisive battle Arjuna (Shaheer Sheikh) receives from Lord Krishna (Saurabh Raj Jain) a teaching on duty and mortality — the passage known as the Bhagavad Gita.
The production drew on serious creative talent: mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik consulted on the script, screenwriting veteran Salim Khan shaped the narrative, and Oscar-winning costume designer Bhanu Athaiya (Gandhi, 1982) handled the visuals. It asks for a real time commitment, but for anyone drawn to Indian mythology or large-scale epic storytelling, nothing on screen quite matches its scope.
