Synopsis
Invisible Heroes (2019) is a Finnish-Chilean historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, co-directed by Alicia Scherson and Mika Kurvinen.
September 1973: Pinochet's coup takes Chile overnight. Finnish diplomats Tapani Brotherus and Ilkka Jaamala, together with Brotherus's wife Lysa, begin sheltering and smuggling out persecuted Chileans without any authorisation from Helsinki. They eventually got more than two thousand people to safety. Separately, Swedish ambassador Harald Edelstam — played by Mikael Persbrandt — ran a more public defence of human rights, backed by Prime Minister Olof Palme.
The series is interested in the gap between official inaction and personal decision: these were mid-level diplomats, not heroes by training, choosing exposure over compliance while the junta's forces moved through the city. Stream Invisible Heroes (2019) online on iFILM.
